Farmers are central to global food security and sustainable development. Protecting their economic, social and cultural rights and ensuring smooth circulation of agricultural products are crucial to realizing the right to development and promoting common development. Currently, farmers around the world still face many constraints in production technology, market connection and rights protection, and urgently need practical and effective technical assistance and capacity-building support.

Beijing Guangming Charity Foundation has Special Consultative Status with ECOSOC. The Foundation, jointly with World Farmers’ Organizations, focuses on agricultural technology extension, production-marketing connection, and international exchange and cooperation. It provides professional skills training, technical assistance, market information sharing and resource matching for farmers worldwide, helping to enhance productivity, resilience and sustainable development capacity, and effectively safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of farmers.

Standards Empower Sustainable Development: WPO Joins the 2026 International Standardization Forum on Sustainable Development

The 2026 International Standardization Forum on Sustainable Development will be held on July 10, 2026, at the United Nations Headquarters in New York. The forum will focus on key Sustainable Development Goals, including clean water, clean energy, innovation, livable communities and global partnerships. The World Peasant Organization will participate in discussions on agricultural standardization, rural drinking water, farmland water conservation, clean energy, agricultural infrastructure and small-scale farmers’ development.

2026年7月6日，由北京市光明慈善基金会、中国国际经济技术合作促进会共同组成的代表团将从北京启程，赴美国纽约全程参与7月7日至16日在联合国总部召开的2026年联合国可持续发展高级别政治论坛（HLPF）。并于  7 月 10 日重磅主办本届论坛核心官方配套边会 ——2026 可持续发展国际标准化论坛，向全球分享标准化赋能 SDG  的中国民间实践方案。作为拥有联合国经济及社会理事会（ECOSOC）特别咨商地位的中国非政府组织，这是基金会继深度参与联合国人权理事会、妇女地位委员会等多边机制后，首次在HLPF框架下主办官方边会并预计在主论坛一般性辩论中发言，标志着中国民间组织参与全球可持续发展治理迈上新台阶。

“可持续发展国际标准化论坛”7月10日登场

本届HLPF由联合国经社理事会主办，主题为“为《2030年可持续发展议程》及其可持续发展目标采取变革性、公平、创新且协调的行动，共建全民共享的可持续未来”，深度审议SDG  6（清洁饮水与卫生设施）、SDG 7（清洁能源）、SDG 9（产业创新与基础设施）、SDG 11（可持续城市与社区）及SDG  17（全球伙伴关系）五大目标。全球36个国家将在论坛期间提交国家自愿陈述。

7月10日上午10时至下午1时，由北京市光明慈善基金会联合中国国际经济技术合作促进会、北京市民间组织国际交流促进会、深圳市全景公益基金会共同主办的“2026可持续发展国际标准化论坛”，将在纽约联合国总部正式举行。该论坛已正式入选HLPF官方边会名录，是本届论坛聚焦“标准化+可持续发展”主题的核心配套活动。

尊敬的各位联合国官员、各国代表、公益与行业同仁：

大家好！非常荣幸代表世界农民组织出席本次联合国 HLPF 可持续发展国际标准化论坛。

农民是粮食安全的基石，绿水青山是乡村可持续发展的最美画卷。我们认为，农业领域标准化是落实 2030 年可持续发展议程、推动本次论坛五项重点目标落地的重要抓手。

世界农民组织始终立足全球小农发展，聚焦三大方向：农村清洁饮用水和农田节水标准化，乡村清洁可再生能源规范化，涉农基础设施和宜居城乡建设模式化。同时，我们也将农业和农村生产、生活、农民组织和收入增长等关键环节，纳入统一的标准化指标体系，推动田间生产、村庄服务和区域农业体系协调运行，提高粮食产量，维护农村稳定。

依托今天论坛即将发布的系列可持续发展标准，我们愿联动各国农户、涉农企业与公益机构，把标准化细则下沉至田间地头；借助本次论坛搭建的全球协作网络，深化跨国涉农标准共建合作，以标准化助力全球乡村可持续创新转型，让绿水青山扎根乡村、走向世界、惠及后代。

Good morning.

It is a great honor to attend this UN HLPF International Standardization Forum on Sustainable Development on behalf of the World Peasant Organization.

Farmers are the foundation of food security, and green mountains and clear waters represent the most beautiful vision of sustainable rural development. We believe that standardization in agriculture is an important tool for implementing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and advancing the five priority goals of this forum.

The World Peasant Organization has always been committed to the development of small-scale farmers worldwide. We focus on three major areas: the standardization of clean rural drinking water and farmland water conservation; the regulated and wider application of clean and renewable energy in rural areas; and the development of replicable models for agricultural infrastructure and livable urban-rural communities.

At the same time, we seek to incorporate key links such as agricultural and rural production, daily life, farmers’ organizations and income growth into a unified standardization indicator system. This will help promote coordinated operation among field production, village services and regional agricultural systems, increase food production and support rural stability.

Relying on the series of sustainable development standards to be released at today’s forum, we are willing to work with farmers, agricultural enterprises and public welfare institutions around the world to bring standardization guidelines down to the fields and rural communities.

With the global cooperation network established by this forum, we look forward to deepening cross-border cooperation in agriculture-related standards. Through standardization, we aim to support the sustainable and innovative transformation of rural communities worldwide, so that green mountains and clear waters may take root in rural areas, reach the world, and benefit future generations.

It is a great honor to attend this UN HLPF International Standardization Forum on Sustainable Development on behalf of the World Peasant Organization.

Standards Empower Sustainable Development: 2026 International Standardization Forum on Sustainable Development Selected as an Official HLPF Side Event

At present, the global sustainable development process has entered a critical stage. The implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development urgently requires coordinated action and unified standards across countries, sectors and industries.

Following review and approval by the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), the 2026 International Standardization Forum on Sustainable Development has been officially selected as a side event of the 2026 United Nations High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF). The forum will be held on July 10, local time, at the United Nations Headquarters in New York. It will bring together government agencies, international organizations, enterprises, academic institutions and civil society organizations for high-level dialogue and practical cooperation. The forum will serve as an important international platform for Chinese social organizations to participate in global governance, share development practices and connect with global partners.

The 2026 United Nations High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF), convened under the auspices of the United Nations Economic and Social Council, is one of the highest-level and most influential multilateral platforms for advancing the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. The overall HLPF session will take place from July 6 to July 15, 2026, with a focus on five core Sustainable Development Goals: Clean Water and Sanitation (SDG 6), Affordable and Clean Energy (SDG 7), Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure (SDG 9), Sustainable Cities and Communities (SDG 11), and Partnerships for the Goals (SDG 17).

The approval of the 2026 International Standardization Forum on Sustainable Development as an official side event marks international recognition of innovative practices that use standardization to support global sustainable development. It also provides a regular platform for exchange and cooperation among Chinese and international partners.

According to the organizers, as global cooperation on sustainable development continues to deepen, standards have become a common language for rule-making, resource sharing and win-win cooperation. With a foundation in Chinese practice and a global perspective, the forum will, on the one hand, share China’s achievements and implementation experience in standardization across areas such as clean water services, clean energy, new infrastructure and smart cities, providing reference for countries of the Global South and other nations. On the other hand, it will actively draw on advanced international concepts and practices, promote mutual learning between Chinese and international standards, and strengthen complementary advantages.

The forum is not only a platform for the exchange of ideas, but also a starting point for practical cooperation. Following the forum, all parties will work to establish long-term cooperation mechanisms and continue promoting the role of standardization systems in empowering global sustainable development.

在主题对话环节，来自中国、肯尼亚、阿中合作领域、公益机构、学术机构和国际发展领域的代表将围绕标准化与包容发展、卫生设施、可持续城市、水能协同、公益科技、全球伙伴关系等议题展开交流。发言嘉宾包括 张汐玉、Derrick Odidi、牟宁、钱竹佳、Kassem Tofailli、Yvette Gibbs、Talya Lockman-Fine、Ugoji A. Eze、薛葵阳 等。

论坛还将安排案例分享和成果发布环节，发布 《绿色低碳型企业评价通则》、 《可持续发展型企业评价通则》、 《数据中心绿色能效优化指南》 等成果，推动标准化工具在企业评价、绿色低碳发展、数据中心能效优化和可持续发展实践中的应用。

闭幕式将由中国国际经济技术合作促进会副理事长 杨连子 作总结致辞。主办方表示，本次论坛将以标准化为桥梁，促进公益组织、国际机构、研究机构、企业和社会发展伙伴之间的合作，为全球可持续发展目标的落实贡献务实力量。

2026 International Standardization Forum on Sustainable Development to Be Held at UN Headquarters in New York

Advancing SDG 6, SDG 7, SDG 9, SDG 11 and SDG 17 through Standardization

New York, July 2026 — The 2026 International Standardization Forum on Sustainable Development, under the theme “Standardization for Sustainable Development,” will be held on July 10, 2026, at the Delegates Dining Room, UN Headquarters, New York, USA. The forum will take place in the context of a side event of the 2026 UN High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF) and will focus on SDG 6, SDG 7, SDG 9, SDG 11 and SDG 17.

The forum is hosted by Beijing Guangming Charity Foundation, an NGO in Special Consultative Status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council. Co-organizers include the China Association for Promoting International Economic & Technical Cooperation, Beijing NGO Association for International Exchanges, Shenzhen Panoramic Charity Foundation, Beijing Industrial Cooperation Association, UN Association for Sustainable Development, City University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong Beineng International Philanthropy Research Institute, Global Affairs Development Union, Kenya, Arab-Chinese Cooperation and Development Association, New Future Foundation Inc., Tongbiao Zhongyan Standardization Technology Research Institute (Beijing) Co., Ltd., and Awujo Consulting LLC.

The forum will be moderated by Shuang Ren. During the opening session, Lin Li, Chairperson of Beijing Guangming Charity Foundation, will deliver opening remarks titled “Uniting Minds and Efforts with Standards, Building a Shared Sustainable Future.” Qiang Guo, Vice Chairman of the China Association for Promoting International Economic & Technical Cooperation, will speak on “Standards as Bridges, Livelihood as Foundation: Empowering Sustainable Development through Standardization.” Zhiyong Gao, Vice Chairman and Secretary-General of Beijing NGO Association for International Exchanges, and Wangyuan Cheng, Secretary-General of Shenzhen Panoramic Charity Foundation, are also expected to participate in the opening session.

The keynote session will include international speakers such as a UNEP official, a representative from the Hungarian Mission to the United Nations, and Delois Blakely, Queen Mother of Africa and UN Goodwill Ambassador for Africa. Yongli Wu, Vice Chairman of the Standardization Committee of CAPITEC, will deliver a keynote speech titled “Standards as the Foundation, Synergy as the Power: Advancing SDGs through Standardization.”

The panel discussion will bring together representatives from public welfare organizations, international cooperation institutions, academic bodies, environmental and development sectors. Speakers include Xiyu Zhang, Derrick Odidi, Ning Mu, Zhujia Qian, Kassem Tofailli, Yvette Gibbs, Talya Lockman-Fine, Ugoji A. Eze, and Kuiyang Xue. Topics will cover inclusive development, sanitation and sustainable cities, the water-energy nexus, public welfare innovation, technology-enabled cooperation and global partnerships.

The forum will also include case studies and an outcome launch session. Expected launches include the General Principles for Green and Low-Carbon Enterprise Evaluation, the General Principles for Sustainable Development Enterprise Evaluation, and the Guidelines for Green Energy Efficiency Optimization of Data Centers. These outcomes aim to support the practical application of standardization tools in enterprise evaluation, green development, energy efficiency and sustainable development practices.

The forum will conclude with closing remarks by Lianzi Yang, Vice Chairman of the China Association for Promoting International Economic & Technical Cooperation. The organizers stated that the forum will use standardization as a bridge to promote cooperation among charitable organizations, international institutions, research bodies, enterprises and social development partners, contributing practical solutions to the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals.
