Small Farmer Sustainability Brief is a low-cost, high-continuity public communication project initiated by the World Peasant Organization (WPO). The project will publish a one-page English brief every month, focusing on the relationship between small farmers, family farming, food security, rural resilience, and sustainable development standards.
The core themes are:
Water · Energy · Food · Rural Infrastructure · Farmer Income
The purpose of this project is not to build a large institution immediately, but to establish a clear, credible, and consistent voice for the World Peasant Organization through monthly policy-oriented briefs.
The project is aligned with the international context of the United Nations Decade of Family Farming 2019–2028, launched by FAO and IFAD, which provides a framework for supporting family farming through policies, programs, investments, and sustainable development actions. FAO materials also emphasize the role of family farming in food security, nutrition, livelihoods, natural resource management, environmental protection, and sustainable development.

The mission of this project is:
To build a clear, consistent, and citable public voice for small farmers and family farms within the global sustainable development agenda.
Through monthly briefs, the World Peasant Organization will connect farmer issues with the Sustainable Development Goals, food security, rural infrastructure, energy transition, water governance, and fair income mechanisms. The briefs will gradually become basic communication materials for international conferences, NGOs, universities, community organizations, and policy research institutions.
The project has five direct objectives:
Build credibility
Monthly publication shows that WPO is an active organization with continuing work, not only a name or slogan.
Develop professional language
Farmer issues will be expressed through the language of sustainable development, food security, agricultural policy, and standards.
Create a networking entry point
The brief will serve as an initial contact tool for North American agricultural organizations, universities, NGOs, chambers of commerce, and international conference networks.
Build a knowledge archive
Each monthly issue will cover one focused topic. After 12 months, WPO will have a structured archive on small farmer sustainability.
Prepare future programs
The project will support future initiatives such as the Farmer Standards Program, World Farmer Digital Map, conference participation, advisory circles, and institutional partnerships.
